The Dunwells - Artist of the Month

Anyone who has spent time in a Caffè Nero, or been to see our stage at one of the festivals we sponsor, will almost certainly be familiar with the Dunwell’s music.

They were one of our first Artists of the Month back in 2010 and played a tour of 40 Caffe Nero’s over 20 days. Well, we're still working with them. And they continue to produce the most beautiful music!

Brothers Joe and David grew up in Leeds and were influenced by their mother’s love of music and their father’s passion for classical guitar. The drive and direction of The Dunwells has always come from the brother’s desire to create indie acoustic music. In the early days they played a defining show at the Folk Alliance in Memphis. This took the West Yorkshire line up onto an intense recording and touring schedule around the US and Canada where they had considerable success playing Major festivals like SXSW, Lollapalooza, Bonnaroo, ACL, Winnipeg Folk Festival, and sharing a stage with Ed Sheeran, Sheryl Crow, Need to Breathe, Josh Ritter, Mumford and sons and Foy Vance

They even appeared on prime-time TV – The US ‘Tonight’ Show with Jay Leno and the BBC with Bob Harris and Andrew Marr. This earned them a top 40 billboard position and a Top 20 AAA with ‘I Could Be A King’ On US Radio. After years of worldwide touring which had them away from their families for extended periods, the brothers felt the pull to be a little closer to home and concentrate on building a UK audience.

2016 saw them release their second full length studio album ‘Light Up the Sky’ and the band found themselves back on the road around the UK, Europe, and US with Bryan Adams on his UK stadium tour along with Lucy Spraggan, Jeremy Loops, and Need to Breathe on three other headline tours. The ‘Light up the Sky’ album has been streamed over 9 million times

Since then the brothers have released two more highly acclaimed studio albums and have been touring extensively but more recently they have also focused on developing their own recording studio, Aire Street Recording in Leeds and have turned into a songwriting mecca where songwriting masterclasses are delivered on a monthly basis to students.

2024 saw The Dunwells have success in a number of areas; they signed a major publishing deal with (Syco) Universal Music which continues to flourish. This brings with it high-calibre artists, more exciting collaborations, and ultimately more eyes and ears on their music as evidenced by featuring on multiple TV shows in the UK and USA. They have continued to take their ‘Studio on the road’ with the inaugural songwriters' retreat in the French Alps and ended the year with a successful songwriting tour in the US.

So we are particularly proud to be once again featuring The Dunwells as our Artist of the Month and we will be playing a selection of their music every day throughout February at 15.30 in all UK stores.
