When Bryony Dunn and the Forest walked onto the Caffe Nero Imagesound stage at the recent Black Deer Festival it would be fair to say that very few in the audience knew what to expect! But within a couple of song’s she had won the audience over with her unique blend of heritage pop blended with a very modern feel. She has almost invented her own genre.
Her music is very ‘organic’, inspired by the earth and shaped like a river which babbles over rocky friendships, cascades into pools of love, and eddies at the anxieties of modern life. Bryony Dunn & The Forest (Bryony Dunn, Jake Andrews, Harley Henson, Emma Taylor and Dan Rimmer) create timeless manifestations for those that seek escape from the cityscape.
Their debut EP ‘‘Burning Fields’ (released 30th Aug) was recorded at StudiOwz, South West Wales (Billie Marten, The Heavy Heavy).
Harnessing the wilds of Pembrokeshire, a mountain of 70s analogue gear, and a converted chapel, they created work that would sit comfortably on a shelf between ‘Blue Weekend’ and ‘Rumours’. Recent achievements include slots at Black Deer Festival, Pub In The Park and Weyfest, supporting Sylvie at The Boilerroom and a live lounge for BBC introducing.
Their music will be playing every day in all our cafes throughout September, from 15.30 for 15 minutes. But if you don’t have the chance to hear them then, check them out on Spotify, or their website.
