Laura Doyle and Baiana - Artist Of The Month

Our artist of the month is unusual in a number of ways! Laura Doyle heads up the ‘Brazilian’ band Baiana and they are just releasing a brilliant debut album titled Baiana which we will feature throughout October playing at 12.00 every day for fifteen minutes in all UK Caffè Nero’s.

It is unusual for us to be featuring Brazilian music but this feel-good ‘happy’ music fits perfectly into our lunchtime jazz playlist. Unusually Laura is not Brazilian but was born in Liverpool and became enraptured by the music after living in Rio de Janeiro when she was seconded as “first lady” with the Italian diplomatic service. Singing in both Portuguese and English, Laura evokes a style reminiscent of the great romantic torch singers of the 40s and 50s.

Laura also became Head of the Cuban desk at a Brazilian law firm, studied clowning under the great Philippe Gaulier in Paris, worked as a stand-up comedian and translator and more recently became one of the UK’s top football agents as the Head of Women’s Football at CAA Stellar (one of the world’s biggest sports agencies)! A very talented lady who has created a brilliant album of Brazilian music….

Baiana has been wowing audiences throughout the UK with a string of sold-out shows and major festivals such as the mighty Love Supreme and Ealing Jazz, even opening for Brazilian mega star Gilberto Gil on his UK tour.

So, we are very proud to showcase this album in Caffè Nero every day of October. You can find out more about Laura and Baiana at www.baiana.co.uk or listen to the album on all the major streaming platforms.
