GéNIA | Get Loud

Performing her signature minimalist sounds interspersed with Russian romance, you can hear pianist GéNIA perform at our Get Loud Coffee Shop Sessions – in support of music therapy charity Nordoff Robbins’ annual awareness day on September 13.

Described as “an outstanding musician” by The Times, Russian virtuoso concert pianist and composer, GéNIA, started playing when she was four years old.

After many years of a strictly classical upbringing, GéNIA moved to London where she was offered scholarships at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and the Trinity College of Music.

It was in London, she discovered an alternative music scene and for a number of years, stopped performing classical music altogether. But not before delivering memorable performances at London’s Wigmore Hall, South Bank Centre and St James Piccadilly. GéNIA then adopted contemporary and electronic music as a performer and released a number of albums with Nonclassical and Black Box Label.

She collaborated with an eclectic range of artists and composers, particularly in the world of piano and electronics as an innovative composer and performer, who has also crossed over into the world of pop music.

COMPOSING CHANGE

Four years ago, GéNIA took time off from her music in London, travelled to Paris, and gave composing a go. She composed a few pieces and since then, hasn’t stopped.

GéNIA’s music has been played on BBC, Classic FM and in all Caffè Nero coffee houses as our feature Artist of the Month.

On September 13, GéNIA once again featured in Caffè Nero, but this time as part of our most ambitious music project yet – Get Loud. GéNIA was one of hundreds of artists who performed in Caffè Nero coffee houses across the UK to raise money for Nordoff Robbins.

You can follow GéNIA on Facebook or head to her website for more on her signature minimalist sounds interspersed with Russian romance
